Memorial Safety Testing in Bodmin Town Council Cemeteries
As part of Bodmin Town Council’s rolling memorial inspection program safety testing of memorials is currently taking place in the New Cemetery, Cross lane, Bodmin and will be ongoing.
As the landowner, Bodmin Town Council is obliged to undertake this work to ensure that its cemeteries are safe places to visit.
Under this safety testing program all memorials under 2.5m in height will be tested by trained staff using industry approved testing procedures.
All memorials found to be unsafe will undergo a temporary fix using a stake and banding technique or if this is not possible the memorial will be laid flat for safety reasons, this method will not cause damage to the memorial and will make the memorial safe. Large memorials will be cordoned off, so they do not present a risk to visitors to the cemetery.
Bodmin Town Council does not fix memorials but can on request make a memorial safe by digging it into the ground.
Bodmin Town Council only allows British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons (BRAMM) members can fix memorials in the cemeteries under their ownership.
Bodmin Town Council will endeavour to carry out these inspections with minimal disruption. However, we would ask that any visitors to the cemetery take note of the warning signs and exercise caution near memorials during this testing.
