I hope you’re all keeping well and staying safe. We are writing to let you now that Cormac will soon begin improvement works to the Bodmin General Bridge on Beacon Road.
The bridge consists of two spans over the line, Boscarne and Bodmin Parkway, both of which are showing signs of future instability and must be replaced. Commencing 4th January 2022 for around ten weeks, the improvements will begin with the removal of the existing surface, abutments and parapets, then the demolition and rebuilding of the two bridge decks themselves. This demolition phase will be from 24th to 31st January (eight days) from 7am until 11.30pm each day. These dates may be subject to slight variation should we experience any unforeseen delays, or if the winter weather conditions turn particularly bad, but we are aiming to keep to a maximum of eight days. For the remainder of the scheme our working hours will be 7am to 5pm.
In order to accommodate the necessary machinery on the road and provide a safe working area for the workforce, Beacon Road will be closed from the Lostwithiel Road junction, across to the Harleigh Road/Terrace junction, for the duration of the project. This will also include the pedestrian footbridge. Access for residents and businesses will be maintained, but there will be no vehicular or pedestrian route through the works at any time. To help prevent congestion on the diversion route, Harleigh Road will be a “No Parking” zone.
As I’m sure you can appreciate, excavation, saw-cutting and drilling are noisy operations. The demolition phase in particular will unfortunately cause some unavoidable disturbance to those living nearby. However please be assured that we will be doing all we can to keep this to a minimum and we very much appreciate your patience and understanding.
Following the demolition and disposal of materials, we will rebuild the masonry abutments, parapets and kerbs, pour, finish and waterproof the decks and install the road surface.
Do please keep in mind that adverse weather conditions can sometimes cause delays to construction phases, but we will do our best to complete in mid-March 2022.
Nearby residents and businesses will be receiving this information by letter, this week.
